Why are you training?

Have you asked yourself why? Why are you training in Tang Soo Do? What are your goals? Is it to become a black belt? Is it to be able to defend yourself and survive dangerous situations?

These are important questions. Learning forms and techniques certainly is fun, but it will eventually come to an end. There are not an infinite number of techniques or forms. The learning will stop at some point. So why are you training?

I can personally verify this. I don’t always learn new things in class when I am training. It is relatively rare, like an eclipse. My learning comes mostly from teaching, and teaching teachers. But I am not always learning every time I teach.

So why do I keep doing it? Why do you keep doing it? Indeed, you may not like the outcome of this post, but the answer is entirely up to you. Everyone will have a different answer. But I do recommend that you think about what your answer to the question is.
